YEA FOR SUMMER ART CRAWLS

The recent Summer Art Crawls celebrating six local artists and nearly 60 students in grades K-7 were a big hit according to instructors and program coordinators Kelly Gams and Judy Broekemeier.  Artists Kathy Hovland - painting and collage, Eric
Carlisle- decorative painting Becky Utecht - felting,
Linda Rother- photography, Keith Raivo-metal sculpture and Barb Dreyer- (pottery) opened up their studios and welcomed the student artists to share their artistic knowledge and workspaces.  Artists young and old worked side by side to create components
of art that will be used in an collaborative piece of art to be displayed this fall. The students were inspired by the atmosphere of being in a "real" studio and were fascinated by each of the processes.  It was very exciting for them to see
that art comes in so many forms......that artists have a profession that takes time, education, training and lots and lots of patience!
Art Crawl participants, their families and any other interested art enthusiasts are invited to visit these same studios in September and October to continue this collaboration. Watch the Upcoming Events for dates and times or contact Judy Broekemeier
at Fairview Elementary for more information.
All Fall Crawls are open to the public, at no charge.  You'll have a great time getting to know our artistic community - just ask the kids!

This activity is sponsored by the Mora Comprehensive Arts Planning Program and funded, in part, by a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council with funds provided by the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota
State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008

Stuart Stotts, author/songwriter/storyteller from Madison, Wisconsin recently performed for Fairview and Trailview students as part of the official kick off for I LOVE TO READ month which begins in February.  He had families participating in his captivating lyrics and fun as well.  Over 100 people of all ages were in attendance at the I LOVE TO READ family nite at Fairview.  His concerts gave the message about how reading is important and his theme song, "How Do I Know?  I Learned It In A Book" caught on with all ages. Sstudents are still singing many of his songs long after his performances.
The mini-residency was sponsored by Mora CAPP and the Mora PTO and supported by the reading teams in each building.SchoolCenter PictureSchoolCenter PictureSchoolCenter PictureSchoolCenter Picture
