Minutes from MORA CAPP Meeting Monday, May 13, 2013

Present:  Brian, Darcy, Kelly, Judy (too many other things going on in the district)

Discussed budget - we paid out only $103 toward the Cowles trip tickets....and busing was totally covered with ECRAC Arts In The Schools grant.  Judy to complete printout and send to members as well as prepare it for board presentation on May 23.

We also have the Spring Arts Awards night - we're hosting the reception - cookies and lemonade in lieu of having no scholarship recipient.  Judy to describe this year's CAPP activities at the close of the program.

Decided to have Kelly round up several third graders for the board presentation..... in their recyclable art attire.

Kelly brought up that we request FRIDAY concessions for next year....we are very reliable and always get workers but need to make more than $100 - $110 for a girls’ basketball night.  Try football?

We are co-sponsoring the UMD Voyageurs anti bullying theater production with Mora Women of Today as well as some funds from Box Tops for Education initiative. They are coming to Fairview for a 10 am performance on Monday, May 20 and then to Trailview for a 1:45 show.

A few things in the works for next year:

Poetry Alive - to write grant for August 1, we can't begin any residency until November 1.....would like to try for a day in each building??  $870 x 3

Sponsorship of an author?

Paradise Theater asked us to work with them on hosting Monroe Crossing for a daytime school workshop, and evening performance at Paradise thanks to a statewide presenter partner grant.  Yes, we are interested, Judy to get back to Eric Carlisle for more information and music department to see who would benefit most from the workshop.

To check with Linda Parson regarding having her daughter's band come and play a concert as a possible fundraiser next year......or to write them in as a grant??  (not able to be a fundraising event then)

We also need to put out the call for more reps for CAPP committee from junior and senior high staff.....perhaps 2 consistent or revolving members could join forces and help us plan for our older students particularly with the focus on iPads and technology - how might we encourage integration of the arts?  How to use Poetry Alive with jr. high students?

Passed around another cheer card for Debee.....

Meeting adjourned at 4:15

Budget - remaining funds approx. 1,500

Scholarship - no applicants as of the Friday April 12 deadline - very few applicants overall for the pool of scholarships…..discussion had about what to do for future and how to generate more awareness of the importance of funding???  Not to mention the recognition?  What is our role?

Poetry Alive for Next Sept/Oct??  discussion of how to fund two - three days of their performances and workshops to cover K-6 and possibly junior high if interest is there.

Judy will attend ECRAC’s next grant writing workshop and give feedback at May meeting as well as contacting Poetry Alive again for possible dates.

Alison - item for agenda - She explained her Forecast public art grant and the possibilities for using the open space on Union Street formerly occupied by the Feed Mill.  She will send out an email (which Judy will forward to all CAPP network) regarding feedback and possible creative conversations she can initiate with students, staff and community members.

Request went out to present at last board meeting in May…….summary and possibly having some third graders model their chance dance outfits…….

Meeting adjourned at 4:30!

Minutes from MORA CAPP March meeting on March 11

Present:  Ben Rossow, Alaine Johnson, Kim Schulz, Brian Doschadis, Darcy Halverson, Nichole Laven, Judy Broekemeier

Discussion of the current budget, upcoming scholarship awards (due April 12) and wrap up of the January 11 ACH grant activities, which concluded at the Vasaloppet Art Show in mid Feb.  Judy shared the binder of publicity/documentation for the residency activities and events.

Group voted to send a gift to committee member Debee McGovern along with our thoughts and prayers.....all signed a card to be sent along with the gift.  Second graders are all ready for their upcoming Distance Learning workshops with Zenon Dance in preparation for their field trip in May.

Ben Rossow came to the meeting with a request for help in funding the high quality microphones that are needed for the upcoming production of Grease.

He discussed the pros and cons of renting the mics vs. purchasing them when technology changes rapidly and they are fragile.  Given that Ben and Jared are trying to take on a large musical in Jared's first year and CAPP is the umbrella for all the arts, we felt it was appropriate use of funds and a motion was made to give the Drama Dept. $300 and ask them to find a matching organization to raise their total of $600.....For example, MEF?

Nichole suggested that they look into sound field enhancements for some percent of their funding for future....or we could try Vega Productions, or Thrivent, etc.  Judy to send Ben a line for using in the Grerase Program to credit CAPP for it's support and funds.

Also discussed the UMD Voyageurs theater production with an anti-bullying theme to perform here at Fairview and Trailview - Judy to contact Mora Women of Today for joint support and BoxTops for Education funds and CAPP can also be used to meet the fees for two shows ($900)

Other items for spring and summer were tabled till April meeting.
